German POW #4 - Painting in progress...

This evening I continued painting the first POW figure, the overcoat is nearly done, hands, belt, shoes and trousers still need attention. I almost forgot, the haircut isn't ready too.

I used three color palette for painting the overcoat, the base color was Vallejo Panzer Aces Feldragu 335, the shades were created with a mixture of PA Feldgrau and PA no 337. The highlights were painted with no 335 and VMC Beige 70917. I'll probably have this one ready before the weekend.

Review - Advanced Figure Modelling vol. 1, Periscopio Publications

Today I present the delayed review (sorry for that Rudi). I just hadn't have the time to do this as I planned to.
Periscopio Publications released their first book about modelling - the Advanced Figure Modelling volume 1. The book has 180 pages and is in 210 x 280 mm format, on high quality paper. The book comes very handy for figure fans, we find there different articles like painting or sculpting sbs' (5 of these) written by famous figure artists. There are also 26 uniform and weaponry illustrations and a total of 35 figure models. The book covers different eras from ancient Greece, through Medieval and of course up to WW 2.
Among the authors we find such well known names like Ray Farrugia, Diego Ruina, Mike Blank, Stephen Mallia, Jaume Ortiz, Petro Balloni as well as many Greek artists like Costas Rodopoulos, Christos Katselos and many other.

So what's the book like?
Overally in my opinion the books is a comprehensive "users manual" for figure modellers, shows useful tips and tricks, learns how to sculpt your own figures and how to paint them ina professional way.is worth getting it. It will surely be a good addition to your modeling literature collection.
As far as I'm informed, the second volume of Advanced figure modelling is on it's way to be published so stay tuned for more.

German POW #3 - Painting them figures

Po dłuższej przerwie znowu wróciłem do tematu figur niemieckich jeńców. Zacząłem cieniować pierwszą z figur ponadto załączam też zdjęcie trzeciego bohatera historii, brytyjskiego żołnierza biorącego wymizerowanych Niemców do niewoli. Cała trójka trafi na dioramę, której miejscem akcji będzie Reichswald, późną zimą 1945 roku, ale o tym wspominałem już wcześniej. Figurom będzie towarzyszył Churchill Mk VII.

I just got back to the POW theme. The first figure got some highlights and shades already, the second figure's face is also finished. I also attach a photo of a third figure of a british captor of those two WH troopers. The whole scene will be located in the Reichswald woods during the Rhine approach in late winter of 1945.

snow Pz IV H, Part 6 - Almost ready

Panzer jest już na ukończeniu, w sobotni wieczór udało mi się namalować numery taktyczne i skończyć malować osłony boczne kadłuba. Następna część dotycząca budowy modelu będzie pokrywała temat figur i podstawki pod model. Przez dłuższy czas budowy modelu miałem mieszane uczucia co do jego wyglądu, ale im bliżej końca jestem tym bardziej rozwiewają sie wszelkie moje wątpliwości i zastrzeżenia. Figurki powinny znakomicie dopełnić ogólny wygląd modelu, urozmaicić i ożywić bryłę.

I painted the turret numbers using a brush and vallejo reds with a drop of retarder. The side skirts were scratched 'n' chipped. I also applied rust colors to some areas.
The build is closing to it's end, in the next part I'll present the figures I'm sculpting for this Panzer, as well as some preview shots of the planned base.

Dalszy ciąg budowy Pz IV. Etapy malowania, przez które ostatnio przebrnąłem to po pierwsze: wstępne pomalowanie i poprzecieranie z farby osłon kadłubowych.

I've done more work with the model, this time started painting the hull schuerzen for further effects:

The muffler was rusted with Vallejos:

Oraz położyłem kilka transparentnych warstw farby na zapasowe ogniwa gąsienic na dziobie czołgu:

I also did some paintjob with transparent layers of rust colors on the spare tracks:

Further work was done with pigments on the suspension, I added some lighter shades immitating dried mud:

I can already say that the book is very interesting, it has 180 pages, loads of article stuff, sculpting and painting sbs', there are more than 20 artists appearing in this volume. More to follow shortly.

snow Pz IV H, Part 4 - Hull

Dziś kolejna część budowy. Na temat tego co wciąż zostało do zrobienia rozwodził się nie będę, to przy kolejne okazji, natomiast parę słów napiszę o tym co stworzyłem do tej pory. Otóż, dzisiejszego wieczoru udało mi się namalować większość planowanych obić farby na kadłubie, nałożyłem też pigmenty na wannę i koła "czwórki". Gąsienice jak na razie są jedynie na przymiarkę, okazuje się, że w wyniku zabiegów malarskich na nich, jak i samym modelu są teraz dość napięte, być może dodam po jednym ogniwie na stronę, by miały więcej luzu. Dalsza część, być może finalna, pod koniec tygodnia.

I worked more on this panzer. I spent the evening painting chips and weathering the lower hull and the suspension. The tracks are only test-fittted, it seems that they need a little bigger sag. I'm planning to finish this build (at least the model, without the figures) this week.

snow Pz IV H, Part 3 - Turret

Korzystając z sobotniego, deszczowego popołudnia popracowałem nieco nad wieżą panzera. Wciąż do wykonania pozostały numery taktyczne oraz przede wszystkim zacieki i inne ślady eksploatacyjne.

Today I managed to work more on the turret, rainmarks, stains and tactical numbers are still left to be done. The weather today was just perfect for modelling, rainy and misty. More to come soon.

snow Pz IV H, Part 2 - Basecoat & whitewash

W zeszłym tygodniu udało mi się zakończyć wstępne malowanie białego kamuflażu na modelu. Posłużyłem się świetną techniką "na lakier do włosów". Tak przygotowaną bazę poddam dalszym zabiegom upiękrzajacym, w ruch pójdą akryle i oleje. Mam nadzieję uporać się z malowaniem przez weekend. Niebawem ciąg dalszy.
Bazę pod biel namalowałem przy uzyciu róznych piaskowych odcieni z gamy farb arkytlowych Tamyia.

I did manage to continue the painjob on the Pz IV H, while putting the IV/70 on hold. The whitewas was done using the very effective hairspray technic. I'm hoping to have this part of the paintjob finished before the end of the weekend. Stay tuned.
The basecoat was done using different sand shades from tamyia range (Dark Yellow, Buff, JGDSF Brown and Deck Tan).
